Mira Murati, former Chief Technology Officer at OpenAI, is reportedly raising capital from venture capitalists for her new AI startup, according to sources familiar with the situation. The startup aims to develop AI products using proprietary models, though it's unclear if Murati will take on the role of CEO.

While discussions are still in the early stages, the venture could raise over $100 million, given Murati's reputation and the investment required for proprietary model training. However, these figures are not yet finalised, sources noted.

Barret Zoph, a well-known researcher who left OpenAI alongside Murati in late September, may also be involved in this new initiative, according to the same sources. Zoph has not yet commented on the matter.

Murati, who played a pivotal role in launching groundbreaking AI projects such as ChatGPT and DALL-E, was instrumental in securing OpenAI's multibillion-dollar partnership with Microsoft, its largest financial backer. Her prominence in the AI space has solidified her as a leading figure in the industry.

After joining OpenAI in 2018 and being promoted to CTO in 2022, Murati became a frequent public representative of the company, often sharing the stage with CEO Sam Altman. Prior to OpenAI, she held key roles at Leap Motion and Tesla.
